Regeneration in Brentford

St James Group have received planning permission for their £43 million Assael Architecture designed mixed-use riverside development on Kew Bridge Road in Brentford.

St James Group had originally obtained outline planning permission in 2001 for this Thames Water reservoir site. Subsequently they have been working with Assael Architecture to create detail designs for the scheme which where presented to the Hounslow Area Planning Committee in mid-September.

The scheme comprises 353 apartments set around a formal large landscaped piazza that links through to an adjoining residential development, as well as to the existing apartments on the Green Dragon Estate. A large new public landscaped space will also be provided at the entrance of the site to enhance the setting of the Waterman's Park located opposite the site.

"We are delighted with this positive result that follows many months of negotiation with London Borough of Hounslow, English Heritage, Historic Royal Palaces and Kew Gardens," said St James Group Director, Andrew Almond. "The design reflects St James Group's commitment to building high quality homes for both private and affordable sectors and this scheme will be a stunning new addition to Brentford.

"Managing Director of Assael Architect, John Assael, said," Assael have been working closely with Hounslow Council over the past four years in developing the appropriate designs for a master plan in East Brentford. This latest phase liberates redundant land that has never been accessible and we are delighted that the design of the scheme has been so well received."

The scheme consists of 30% affordable housing, many of which have views of the River Thames.
