Green Dragon Primary School want an all weather sport's pitch

- 17-Sep-2004
The Green Dragon Primary School situated directly north of Capital West Building 2 is seeking planning permission for an all weather sport's pitch.

The sports pitch is to be located at the south end of the grass playing field putting it very close to Capital West Building 2, in particular behind stairs 2C & 2D (the Tower), but also affecting stairs 2A & 2B.

A new multi-user games area can offer opportunities for new all-year round sports activities, games and formal competitions - during school time, after school, at weekends and during school holidays."

It is envisaged the pitch will only be used whilst supervised, be limited to children up to 16 years old and have a closing time of circa 9-9:30 PM. There would be floodlights to illuminate the pitch during dark times but these would be pointing down onto the pitch. Light pollution studies show minimal effect on Capital West because of the angle of the lights.

The pitch will be offered to the greater community as a resource therefore it is in the interest of the school to maximise the potential use of any such revenue earning facility.

In the top image here the pitch is seen looking east from the school (building roof to the bottom left) and Capital West is behind the trees on the right. The building on the right would be a two story building (a basement and raised ground floor) would contain the changing rooms, a multipurpose hall and store room in the basement level with an office, servery and classroom/canteen on the raised ground floor.

The bottom image shows where the pitch is propsed to be situated, with Capital West at the top of the photo.
