Walkway to be named Chapel Lane

- 17-May-2005
The public cycle / walkway running through Capital West is to be officially named.

As part of the London Plan to open up more space to pedestrians and cylists alike nearly all modern developments need to create some open space and make 'Section 106' contributions.

Our Section 106 is the east/west walkway that separates the two buildings of Capital West.

The expression Section 106 became familiar to us when referring to the walkway, but it somehow didn't reflect the true nature of the area. Whilst looking into the history of St George's Church a copy of a map dated 1865 (enhanced image here) showed a lane running virtually the same path as the Section 106.

It was self evident that this new walkway should be renamed back to what it originally was and an application to officially name the walkway Chapel Lane was approved in writing to us today.

When the development to the east of the Meridian Tower (Thames Water site) goes up the walkway will be extended past the new Music Museum to join Kew Bridge Road just before the Steam Museum. This will make a more pleasurable path to communting routes for us all.

Footnote: No cars are allowed to transgress Chapel Lane, hence the bollards at the western end by the hotel.
