Online Petition to save Ridgeways Boatyard
- 10-Feb-2006
A Brentford resident is attempting to save an important heritage site and seeks your involvement. As this circumstance is similar to our attempt to save St George's Church I would appreciate (as would Nigel) your comments using the online petition (link below). Editor, HG web site
Yet another public consultation is out as to how Brentford's development should continue! This is an opportunity to demonstrate to the council, not just how strong local opinion is over the proposed loss of our unique but small boatyard, but also how widespread the concern is to the wider boating community and all those interested in both waterways' heritage and the survival of rare ecological niches.
Retaining a working yard and offline moorings can and has been accomplished within Town Centre developments before, adding to the character and value of them. A semi-tidal yard so close to the High Street of a town centre must be rare indeed. I have the chance to try pushing these aspects in persuading the Council that Ridgeways must be retained within any new scheme.
The Council have only just granted new designations to the nearby Thames and tidal boatyards on the Borough boundaries, which is a significant move forward. I need your help in getting them to extend this protection to us!
I set up an online petition last year, when the first round of consultations began, but had far too few responses. I’d like to present a print-out of a very much larger list if I can, and so the more "signatures" I can get in the next few weeks the better. Please try to think of something for the comments section, - that makes all the difference!

Nigel Moore

Petition signing
Just like to say thanks to those who so promptly signed on, especially those with comments. I have to say that of all new incomers, the Holland Gardeners have been foremost in taking an active interest here, whether getting muddy down on the river clear-ups, or participating in the various campaigns to keep the most valuable of the past and ensure the best for the future.
Hats off to you all, and thanks again.
Nigel
