Road works on entrance to new Music Museum

- 11-Sep-2006
Road works are in progress improving the entry to the new Music Museum, but that's not what they are for.

The road works are the start of works on the 353 apartments due to go up in the unused Thames Water site next door. The entrance is seen left in the image here (the blue hoardings have been removed).

Planning permission was granted some 5 years ago and according to law, works must start within that time, and the deadline of September 29 was approaching fast.

Unfortunately for the developer (St George) Thames Water has not decommissioned the land to a position it can be handed over for development.

As a solution the developer was granted permission to start building the access road into the development therefore meeting the 5 year deadline. The development proper is expected to begin in about 2-3 years.

The access road will not open the other end of Chapel Lane.
