St George's Church - up for sale

The owners of St George's Church and the Sarah Trimmer Hall (that little white building next to the church) have put the site up for sale.

The Diocese of London has put the site up for sale after the complete withdrawal from purchasing by Barratt who lost their battle to demolish the church and put up more apartments.

The site is being offered through a local Internet based estate agent and is on the market for offers in excess of £2 million, though the agent seems to think £2.5 million is a more likely figure.

It is being marketed as a sympathetic refurbishment into apartments, care home or business, and as a 'car-less' site.

Apparently interest has been running high but there has been no word so far as to any firm offers.

The Residents Committee were asked to endorse the proposed sale which we did strictly under the proviso it would only be converted as is. Read our letter to the estate agent.
